Overview of Oil Analysis

When you go for a medical checkup, a blood sample is usually taken and the results help the 

doctor determine if there is any problems with the vital organs. Similarly, because the oil is the lifeblood of machinery, analysis can help detect a developing problem in the oil-wetted path of a machine.

Three Facets of Oil Analysis:

- Lubricant: Comparison of the chemicals and physicals of the sample against oil to determine if it remains an adequete lubricant

- Contamination: Monitor overall particle cleanliness in the oil for purposes of contamination control

- Machine: Analyse sample for metal particles to determine condition of oil-wetted (wearing) machinery parts
